Please be sure your child is wearing safe shoes to school (no flip flops) and no spaghetti straps. If students wear a dress, please make sure there are shorts underneath.
o White T-Shirts – Please have your child bring in a white t-shirt to tie dye or decorate for our school field trips in October. Make sure you have your child’s name on the inside of the shirt with a sharpie.
o Homework – Please be sure you are reading with your child 10 minutes every day. Be sure to ask them to retell the story including characters, setting and events (beginning, middle and end). Also ask your child what the main topic is and supporting details to the passage. Your child should be on a reading level J by the end of 1st grade. Please e-mail me if you have any questions on your child’s reading level. They should be practicing their sights words and nonsense words as well. Students also have a math worksheet and reading passage to complete weekly.
o Special Rotation – Since Track 1 is tracked out we are on a different specials schedule. We will have one special 4 days in a row and then switch to a new special. As of September 8th our specials schedule will be?
Music, music, music and music
What we are learning…
Reading and Writing:
This week in letterland we are talking about word families with ell, et and en. In reading we are talking about main topic and supporting details. Please make sure you are asking your child about main topic and support details when you are reading with them. In writing, we are working on writing sequenced events in a story using first, next and last. We will also be talking about describing words in our writing.
Math:
In math, we are using different strategies for addition and subtraction. We are also talking about math mountains and word problems.
Science:
In science, we are talking about measuring, along with comparing and contrasting different lengths.
