Welcome 1st Grade Parents and Guardians! We have spent the first week getting to know each other and practicing our routines and procedures in the classroom. I’m excited to be working with you and your sweet children.
- Recess - As the temperatures begin to warm up, please be sure to have your child brings a water bottle to school for recess. Also be sure your child is wearing safe shoes to school (no flip flops) and no spaghetti straps.
- Attraction Books – Please be sure to send in your attraction books ASAP, the PTA is collecting any books that haven’t been sold.
- Snacks – Please be sure your child packs a healthy snack every day. We go to recess at 11:45AM and that is when the children can eat their snack. We then have lunch at 1:30PM; it is a long day for the children if they don’t have a snack.
- White T-Shirts – Please have your child bring in a white t-shirt to tie dye or decorate for school field trips. Make sure you have your child’s name on the inside of the shirt with a sharpie.
- DOT Folder – Please be sure your child is bringing their DOT folder every day to school. This is the way I communicate with behavior, work done in class and assessments. The first page on their DOT folder has how their day went and whether or not they showed their PAWS. I encourage you to discuss with your child items in their DOT folder.
- Homework – Please be sure you are reading with your child 10 minutes every day. Be sure to ask them to retell the story including characters, setting and events (beginning, middle and end). Your child should be on a reading level J by the end of 1st grade to be on grade level. Please e-mail me if you have any questions on your child’s reading level. In 2 weeks they will receive a book from me to read on their reading level. All homework is given on Monday and must be returned by Friday.
- PE – Please be sure your child is wearing closed toed shoes every day in order to provide safety. Do not send your child to school with flip flops or open toed shoes. If your child is wearing open toed shoes for PE, they will not be able to participate.
- Special Rotation – We are on a 7 day Specials rotation. Starting on Monday August 22nd the rotation will be:
- Volunteers and Chaperones – We are still finalizing our field trips this year but if you would like to be a chaperone, please make sure you are cleared through Wake County. This process can take some time so please do it as soon as possible.
- Earbuds - Please bring in earbuds for your child along with their name on it (use a piece of tape to write their name). We will be using the earbuds for listen to reading with ipods in the next week.
- Green Road Library - Please view the attached e-mail for free events at Green Road Library. They have regularly scheduled story times available for you and your family.
- Fun Friday – We will be celebrating Fun Friday this year! Students that show their PAWS and complete their work will be eligible to celebrate in special fun rotations.
