Our 1st grade year has begun! We have spent the first week getting to know each other and practicing our routines and procedures in the classroom. I’m excited to be working with you and your sweet children.
- Recess - As the temperatures begin to warm up, please be sure to have your child brings a water bottle to school for recess. Also be sure your child is wearing safe shoes to school (no flip flops) and no spaghetti straps.
- Snacks – Please be sure you child packs a healthy snack every day. We have lunch at 12:15PM and then children have snack at 2:45PM during recess.
- White T-Shirts – Please have your child bring in a white t-shirt to tie dye or decorate for school field trips. Make sure you have your child’s name on the inside of the shirt with a sharpie.
- DOT Folder – Please be sure your child is bringing their DOT folder every day to school. This is the way I communicate with behavior and work done in class. I encourage you to discuss behavior and work in the classroom with your child.
- Homework – Please be sure you are reading with your child 20 minutes every day. Be sure to ask them to retell the story including characters, setting and events (beginning, middle and end). Your child should be on a reading level J by the end of 1st grade. Please e-mail me if you have any questions on your child’s reading level. Starting in week 3 they will have a book to read on their reading level. They will also have a passage with a comprehension question along with a math worksheet.
- Special Rotation – We are on a 5 day Specials rotation. Starting on Monday August 7th the rotation is:
- Volunteers and Chaperones – We are still finalizing our field trips this year but if you would like to be a chaperone, please make sure you are cleared through Wake County. This process can take some time so please do it as soon as possible.
- Earbuds: Please bring in earbuds for your child along with their name on it (use a piece of tape to write their name). We will be using the earbuds for listen to reading with ipods in the next week.
- Green Road Library: Please view the attached e-mail for free events at Green Road Library. They have regularly scheduled story times available for you and your family.
