Our second grade year has begun! We have spent the first week getting to know each other and practicing our routines and procedures in the classroom. I’m excited to be working with you and your sweet children.
- Recess - As the temperatures begin to warm up, please be sure to have your child brings a water bottle to school for recess. Also be sure your child is wearing safe shoes to school (no flip flops) and no spaghetti straps.
- Snacks – Please be sure you child packs a healthy snack every day. We don’t have lunch until 12:45, we eat snack at 10:30 during recess.
- White T-Shirts – Please have your child bring in a white t-shirt to tie dye or decorate for school field trips. Make sure you have your child’s name on the inside of the shirt with a sharpie. If you were in my class last year you don’t have to bring in a white t-shirt, you can reuse your tie dye shirt.
- DOT Folder – Please be sure your child is bringing their DOT folder every day to school. This is the way I communicate with behavior, work done in class and assessments. I encourage you to discuss with your childs items in their DOT folder.
- Reflection Journal – Every Friday your child will bring home a reflection journal. Please return it on Monday. The purpose of the journal is for you to talk about what your child has been doing all week. Students will write about class activities, behavior and any assessments they have taken. Please celebrate the successes and reflect on anything that your child needs to work on and write back to your child. This allows your child to take ownership on their learning.
- Homework – Please be sure you are reading with your child 20 minutes every day. Be sure to ask them to retell the story including characters, setting and events (beginning, middle and end). Your child should be on a reading level M by the end of 2nd grade. Please e-mail me if you have any questions on your child’s reading level. Starting in week 3 they will have a book to read on their reading level. Next week they will have a homework packet on Monday, please return in on Friday. It will have a fluency passage, spelling homework and a math worksheet.
- Special Rotation – We are on a 7 day Specials rotation. Starting on Monday August 8th the rotation will be:
- Volunteers and Chaperones – We are still finalizing our field trips this year but if you would like to be a chaperone, please make sure you are cleared through Wake County. This process can take some time so please do it as soon as possible.
- Earbuds: Please bring in earbuds for your child along with their name on it (use a piece of tape to write their name). We will be using the earbuds for listen to reading with ipods in the next week.
