Our first grade year has begun! We have spent the first week getting to know each other and practicing our routines and procedures in the classroom. I’m excited to be working with you and your sweet children.
As the temperatures begin to warm up, please be sure to have your child brings a water bottle to school. Also be sure your child is wearing safe shoes to school (no flip flops) and no spaghetti straps.
o Contact – Please complete the student release locator information sheet, privacy release and supply list as soon as possible.
o White T-Shirts – Please have your child bring in a white t-shirt to tie dye or decorate for school field trips. Make sure you have your child’s name on the inside of the shirt with a sharpie.
o Homework – Please be sure you are reading with your child 10 minutes every day. Be sure to ask them to retell the story including characters, setting and events (beginning, middle and end). Your child should be on a reading level J by the end of 1st grade. Please e-mail me if you have any questions on your child’s reading level. They should be practicing their sights words and nonsense words as well. Starting in week 3 they will have a passage to read along with math homework.
Special Rotation – We are on a 7 day Specials rotation. Starting on Monday August 3rd the rotation will be:
P.E., Counseling, P.E., Art, Music, Media, Technology
o Volunteers and Chaperones – We are still finalizing our field trips this year but if you would like to be a chaperone, please make sure you are cleared through Wake County. This process can take some time so please do it as soon as possible.
o Earbuds: Please bring in earbuds for your child along with their name on it (use a piece of tape to write their name). We will be using the earbuds for listen to reading with ipods in the next week.
