Only 4 weeks before we track out! We are expecting some cold days so please make sure your child brings a jacket everyday. We go outside as long as the temperature is above freezing.
- Snacks – Please be sure you child packs a healthy snack every day. We have lunch at 12:15PM and then children have snack at 1:30PM during recess.
- DOT Folder – Please be sure your child is bringing their DOT folder every day to school. This is the way I communicate with behavior and work done in class. I encourage you to discuss behavior and work in the classroom with your child.
- Homework – Students will receive homework on Mondays which should be turned in on Friday. Students should be practicing their fluency passages every night. It is their goal to read 87 words a minute by the end of the year. There will also be a weekly math sheet included in homework.
- Google Classroom - We have our own google classroom! This is a site that every student knows how to get on. I post questions about what we are learning and children can respond in real time. In order to get on at home, go to the Wilburn page, scroll down to Teachers, hit the + sign, then click on WakeID. From there all students have their own wakeID login (which they know) and their password is their lunch number (which they know). Please login at home and check it out!
- Read Theory - All students have access to a new website for reading.. This site provides passages on their reading level along with comprehension questions. Just google Read Theory and it will prompt you for a user and password. I made their user very similar to Big Universe and their password is the initial of their first name capitalized along with their lunch number.
What we are learning…
Reading:
We are continuing our learning about pollination and the animals or insects that pollinate. Students will be researching more details about this and learn about how to make a presentation off of their research. We will also be talking about main idea or gist along with details that support main idea. Students will also ask and answer questions from the text.
Math:
In math, we are doing addition and subtraction within 1000 with regrouping and ungrouping. We will end this unit talking about missing addend within 100 and comparison word problems. Also students will need to know how to mentally add 10 more, 10 less, 100 more and 100 less. We will then end the quarter with measurement.
Science:
In science we are talking about weather, weather patterns and the tools used in weather such as an anemometer, thermometer and rain gauge.
